I. PRIOR TO SALE
- Sale Qualification – prior to the State Fair Livestock Shows, all exhibitors must indicate their intentions to either participate in the Junior Livestock Sale or not. This must be done by informing the appropriate official at weigh-in which will then be marked on the weigh-in card. The exhibitor must also confirm his or her intention to sell immediately upon conclusion of the show by signing a sale confirmation form. This form will be available at the announcer’s table near the show ring and will be provided by an Ark-La-Tex Agricultural Council (Ag Council) member.
- 2.Scratching From Sale – The sale order will be established and posted as quickly following the respective shows as possible. An exhibitor who has made the sale order may “scratch” or drop from the sale prior to 11:00 A.M. the day following the respective show. Scratches must be reported to the Ag Council office located near the show barns. An exhibitor who has made the sale order, does not properly scratch within the required time period, and fails to drive the animal through the sale ring the day of the sale will be fined $50 and will not be permitted to sell the following year. EXCEPTION: An exhibitor may request a waiver of the 11:00 A.M. following day deadline for goats, lambs or poultry if the exhibitor is showing other species of market animals in a later show that may result in exceeding the one (1) Unit maximum per exhibitor (see Unit requirements below). In the case of an approved waiver of deadline, the absolute deadline for this Exhibitor will be the conclusion of the last species show.
- Sale Units – Exhibitors will be eligible to sell more than one species in the Junior Livestock Sale but will be limited to one (1) Unit per exhibitor. Units are defined as follows:
- Steer = 1 Unit
- Goat = ½ Unit
- Lamb = ½ Unit
- Pig = ½ Unit
- Chickens: 1 Pen = ½ Unit
Any combination of ½ units, whether the same or different species, may constitute one (1) Unit.
Ex. One goat and one pig = one (1) Unit; One pen of chickens and one lamb = one (1) Unit; Two pigs = one (1) Unit
Ex. Two pigs and one goat = one and one half (1 ½) Units
***Exhibitor would be required to exclude one animal.
“Units will also apply to combinations of champions (Grand and Reserve Grand) and non-champions owned by the same exhibitor whether the same or
different species. Units will not apply to combinations of champions (Grand
and reserve) whether the same or different species. Therefore an exhibitor may exceed one (1) unit with and combination of champion animals.
Ex. One champion steer and one champion pig – both animals would sell
despite being 1 ½ units.
Ex. One champion hog, two champion goats and one non-champion lamb –
All three champion animals would sell despite being 1 ½ units but the
Non-champion animal would not be eligible.

disqualified from participating in the Junior Livestock Sale.
